Trip Generation:
Trip generation is a simulator in Sim City 2000 that figures out how much traffic there is in your city and how far and long your Sims need to drive from Point A to Point B.
Here is the basic way the trip generator works:

  1. The Sim (or simulator) starts off at a zoned tile (Note: I said zoned tile. The tile doesn't need to be built on, just a zoned tile).
  2. It heads off in a direction looking for a road, subway, or rail station that will get him to where he wants to go. If he doesn't find one between 3 tiles, he heads back and searches the other directions. If he still can't find a way to get there, the trip is a failure.
  3. If it finds a transportation method within 3 tiles, it will hop on in the direction of his destination.
  4. If he finds his destination within a pre-determined time limit, the trip is succesfull, and "Traffic Naughty!" won't appear in the paper.
  5. If the sim finds another mode of transport along the way, there is a 50-50 chance that the Sim will take that.

I hope that the above will allow you to design a transportation system that best fits your city. Another note: The "destinations" are figured by the type of zone the sim is starting from, for example, a residential Sim will take more trips to an industrial or commercial area than another residential zone.

And overall, be creative.
