Zoning and Police

Jeff asks...
How do you reccomend putting in zones and how many police stations do you use?

Towards the beginning of my city, I mostly put in dense industrial and residential, along with light commercial. I usually try to keep Residential and Industrial relatively even, with commercial as a smaller slice of the pie. I always use the Demand Bar to figure out which zones to put when (see Building a City).

When you get up around 100,000 people you should begin to build everything dense, and make commercial a larger portion of your building. I prefer not to use arcologies, but that's every mayor's decision.

As for police stations, I usually get one pretty early in my city (the citizens demand it early). After that, I only add sparingly. One station for each quadrant of the city should be OK, or if your crime is high you can add more as demand increases. The police advisor in the Budget window really comes in handy for that.

I hope this helps!
