SimCopter Helicopters

Now it's time to go over the most important things that make up SimCopter - the helicopters! There are 8 helicopters that you can buy, plus one extra that's part of a cheat code :-). Each copter has it's own different characteristics. The more important of these are engines, speed, seats, and weight. Seats and weight mean you can hold more Sims, whether they be cops or medics, Medevac victims, people you just rescued, etc. Speed and engines mean you can go faster and higher than other helicopters, which can be an advantage for several different things.

Now, finally, the Whirlybirds of SimCopter.

Note: In order to save disk space, I saved these pictures as compressed JPEG's. As a result, the picture quality is probably going to be a little off.

Schweitzer 300
Schweitzer 300
The Schweitzer 300 is the only copter you get in the beginning of the game. It's usually used as a training helicopter, it's very small and lightweight. Also it's the cheapest copter you can buy.

  • Engines: Single piston engine with 190 horsepower
  • Seats: 2
  • Speed (max): 153 km/h (kilometers per hour) or 82 knots
  • Range (max): 360 kilometers or 195 nautical miles
  • Weight: 474 kilograms or 1046 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 8.18 meters or 26'10''

Bell 206 Jetranger
Bell 206 JetRanger
The Bell 206 JetRanger is a good overall copter, it's the second type of helicopter you can buy. It has a lot of seats and a very strong engine. This is probably a good choice a good choice to buy it as soon as you can, it's a good step up from the Schweitzer.
  • Engine: Single turbine engine (420shp)
  • Seats: 7
  • Speed: 232 kilometers per hour or 125 knots
  • Range: 666 kilometers or 360 nautical miles
  • Weight: 844 kilograms or 1,861 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 11.28 meters or 36 feet

McDonnell/Douglas 500
McDonnell/Douglas 500
This is the first of the three McDonnell/Douglas copters in the game. It's just as fast as the JetRanger, but only about half the size of it. This is a good copter for speedy transport work.
  • Engine: Single turbine engine (278shp)
  • Seats: 1-6
  • Speed: 232 kilometers per hour or 125 knots
  • Range: 422 kilometers or 228 nautical miles
  • Weight: 493 kilograms or 1,088 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 8.03 meters or 26'4''

McDonnell/Douglas 520 NOTAR
McDonnell/Douglas 520 NOTAR
By the way, NOTAR means NO TAil Rotar. This chopper has good overall size and speed. It doesn't have an attribute that really excels over the other copters. This is an expensive helicopter for it's type.
  • Engine: Single turbine (375shp)
  • Seats: 4-5
  • Speed: 250 kilometers per hour or 135 knots
  • Range: 402 kilometers or 217 nautical miles
  • Weight: 742 kilograms or 1,636 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 8.33 meters or 27'4''

Bell 212
Bell 212
This thing looks like some old Army chopper (Be All That You Can Be). This thing has some monster engines and horsepower, but it's still not as fast as some other copters. This is full equipped with 13-15 seats, and it's large weight allows it to be a great transporter from place to place.
  • Engines: Twin coupled turbine engines (1290shp)
  • Seats: 13-15
  • Speed: 206 kilometers per hour or 111 knots
  • Range: 450 kilometers or 243 nautical miles
  • Weight: 2,765 kilograms or 6,097 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 14.69 meters or 48'2''

Augusta A109
Augusta A109
This is a large copter, but isn't very fast. This is good for fighting fires and rescuing people, which in most cases require lot's of weight but not speed. It's seats offer opportunity for transport though.
  • Engines: Twin turbines (400shp)
  • Seats: 7-8
  • Speed: 285 kilometers per hour or 154 knots
  • Range: 648 kilometers or 350 nautical miles
  • Weight: 1,418 kilograms or 3,126 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 11 meters or 36'1''

Dauphin 2 (Eurocopter)
Dauphin 2 (EuroCopter)
This is one of the larger copters, especially built for transporting things and people. It's pretty fast overall also. This is probably a great overall copter, it will carry lots of people, firefighting water, etc., plus it's a pretty fast transporter.
  • Engines: Twin turbines (680shp)
  • Seats: 13
  • Speed: 260 kilometers per hour or 140 knots
  • Range: 900 kilometers or 485 nautical miles
  • Weight: 1,806 kilograms or 3,980 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 11.68 meters or 38'4''

McDonnell Douglas Explorer
McDonnell/Douglas Explorer
This is a solid overall copter, not lacking anything but not excelling in anything either. It's amazingly the most expensive copter. You'll need a lot of money to buy it, plus lot's of cheaper copters are actually better.
  • Engines: Twin turbines (629shp)
  • Seats: 8-10
  • Speed: 274 kilometers per hour or 148 knots
  • Range: 600 kilometers or 325 nautical miles
  • Weight: 1,458 kilograms or 3,215 pounds
  • Rotor Diameter: 10.3 meters or 33'10''

Apache
Apache
The Apache is one of many Easter Eggs in SimCopter. Some tiles on military bases will be helicopters like one above-The Apache. You can actually land on that square, get out of your copter, and get in the Apache. Supposedly you can blast criminals and the UFO with missiles :-). No statistical information is available.
