Overview of SimCity 3000
SimCity 3000 is the long-anticipated sequel to SimCity and SimCity 2000, two of the most popular computer games of all time (and probably the most popular one without blood and gore.) It's impossible to gauge how long the idea has been around, but Maxis first announced it had begun fully making the game in this April 1997 newsletter.

SC3K first started out being a full 3-D environment. You could rotate and zoom to any point in your city you wished, and could view cars in the street, passers-by, and more. The simulators were also vastly improved, with the addition of microsimulators, which allow you to control every aspect of a building or tile.

However, by around February 1998 Maxis began to realize what they'd undertaken. They figured their current design was too powerful for the average computer, and they scrapped it. (Ironically, now that old design could run on a lower-end PC.) Instead of a true-3D interface, SC3K now sports a beefed-up version of SimCity 2000's graphics. The buildings are very detailed, and you can see all 4 sides of a building.

As we wait for SimCity 3000 (now looking at a December or early-1999 release), fan sites like these and the official website at SimCity.com provide a wealth of info for you to drool over.
